What's the rudest thing you've ever asked anyone? And what's the rudest thing you've ever been asked?
Wow. That's a tough one. I've been asked so many rude questions, it's not even funny, but one that's rude enough to really remember? hmm. Someone asked me why my eyes looked so stupid once. I told them I had a condition that wouldn't allow me to open my eyes all the way, and they said I should have something done about it, because people wouldn't want to talk to me if I didn't.
What's the rudest question I asked someone? Well, I feel really bad about this now when I look back on it, but to be fair, I was only four years old, and at that age, most kids don't know what's okay to say, and what's not. I asked a lady why she was so fat. I know. It was very rude, and I got a lecture from my mother later about rude questions.
When I was nine or ten and riding on qe "short bus" I couldn't help but hear a squishing sound when a girl got on the bus. Her mom was helping her, so I blatantly asked, "Hey. Does Kristina wear diapers?" She snapped back at me, "Well that's not your business young lady." Lol. I think the rudest questionI've ever been asked was actually by avery ignorant family member and it was, "How do blind people have sex? How does he know where to put it?"
I've been asked that question too. I personally think it was more funny than rude, but it is one of those questions you might want to be careful about. lol. Some people just don't have a clue, though.
I've said plenty of rude things in my time because tact is an issue. I've gotten better, but it is still difficult for me sometimes. Recently, i was on the phone with a friend trying to make plans to atend the NFB state convention for this year. While we were having the conversation, she kept talking to others in the background on a consistent basis. I finally said, "Oh, my! this is about the most boring and uneventful conversation i've had in a long time. This is useless!" Later, we appologized to one another about it, and we continued making our plans.
Sunshine and Rain, I've had a parent talk to me like that, too, when all i wanted to know was something legitimate. The girl was in a wheelchair, and she had the mind of a baby. I was twelve and ask why she acted that way, and the mother told me to mind my business. Wow! I feel like if someone wants to know something, why not answer the question or be nice about it? Even when sighted people ask me questions that seem to be either rude or stupid, so long as they are legitimately trying to learn something and really want to know, then what is the harm in telling them? If people are being ignorant, that is one thing. If they are asking because they want to understand, that is different. i can't tell you how many times I've asked stupid questions all because I did not understand something.
That's true. I guess people just get offended sometimes by the wording of the question.
this isn't the rudest question but it is one that I keep getting asked and I don't get it. This morning I was working on an access issue with a computer. This woman, perhaps in her late 20s asked me "are you really blind or just plain stupid." I said that yes, I was really blind which means my eyes don't work. as for the stupid part she'd have to figure it out for herself. Since after I revealed my vision state to her and she couldn't get why I was unable to find the blue box, we can conclude she didn't pass the test enabling her to swim in the deep end of the gene pool.
I'd really appreciate it if one of you young people could answer this. does blind have some new slang term I don't get? I've been asked this a lot lately. "are you really blind?" "what does that mean that you are blind?" etc. etc. etc. where is that allergy shot I take to protect me from stupidity?
I think if you say blind then people think you cant see anything. If you say visually impaired then that's more partually sighted. I have got a friend who can be quite crude and cheeky. But everybody is differnt.
Well, some people refer to blindness as ignorence or just plain stupidity, in some cases. For example, if you don't know the answer to a seemingly obvious question, someone might say: "Are you blind?". I don't think it is meant to be a bash against those of us who are literally blind, but it can be offensive, depending how you think about it.
